About the Ocean View Finder
How does the Ocean View Finder work?
It traces 720 sight lines out 10 km from the spot you choose across Natural Resources Canada's 1 metre LiDAR elevation data, which includes trees and buildings, and shows where the line of sight reaches the ocean from a ground floor, a 2nd floor and a roof deck.
How accurate is it?
It's a good first check, not a guarantee. The LiDAR was captured between 2018 and 2024, so trees may have grown or been cut, and real floor heights vary. Always visit the property, and ask Marissa to confirm the view on site.
Can it tell me what clearing trees would do?
Yes. Switch between "As it is today", "Trim nearby trees" (trees within 50 m of the house removed) and "Cleared lot" (terrain only) to see how the view changes. Check municipal and provincial rules before cutting trees, especially near the shore.
Does it show sunsets over the water?
Yes. Pick any day and time to see the sun's position over the real skyline from that spot, when the sun actually rises over and drops behind the hills or trees, and which dates the sun sets over the water.
Is it free?
Yes, it's free to use as often as you like. If you're looking to buy or sell a home with a view, tap "Looking to buy or sell this view?" to send Marissa a note.
